Awards of the Period of Independent Lithuania
Over a period of time, museums have gathered numerous various exhibits of phaleristics: orders, medals, badges. The number of such exhibits in Rokiškis regional museum increased when a teacher, Honorary Citizen of Rokiškis Region, a member of the Lithuanian Union of Political Prisoners and Deportees, the founder of the Obeliai (Rokiškis region) museum of history, and museologist Andriejus Dručkus donated his collection (not only phaleristics) to the museum.
The awards in Lithuania, like in other countries, were of three types: orders, medals, and other badges of honor. The awards were not only governmental but also established by some larger organizations.
In May 1919 general Silvestras Žukauskas (1860-1937) issued a decree of the Commander-in- Chief, announcing the idea of awards, and one month later already awarded the first officers and soldiers who were fighting in the battle with the ribbons. Unfortunately, we do not have this award in the museum collection.
Awards from the period of independent Lithuania, that were in the collection donated to the museum by A. Dručkus, are presented in this virtual exhibition.
The exhibition was prepared in the framework of the project „Centennial of Lithuania in the exhibits of Lithuanian museums”, which is supported by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania. The project is dedicated to commemorate and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Restoration of the Lithuanian state.
